Anna Tingle (Lecture:Alec Soth)

Alec Soth:

From:"Sleeping By the Mississippi"
From: "Niagra"
From: "The Last Days of W"

I found Alec Soth's lecture informative, humorous, and puzzling. I liked that he was very open about his qualms with his photography or photography in general. It is really nice to know that people of his status also question whether photography is doing the right thing or on the right track. Even though he was/is having trouble using photography the way that he wants (to tell a story) he still finds humor and shows the viewers humor in his work. I found the lecture puzzling because all I have been told about my own photography is that I need to be more literal or that people wont see what it is that I see. The thing is Soth with his series "Sleeping by the Mississippi" didn't care if people saw the connection. So then why is it important that I show people the connection with my own photography. I think the thing that will stay with me the most is the last quote: "It has never been hard to make a great picture, it is the series that is virtually impossible."(?) The fact that someone who has succeeded in the field has this quote makes me more determined to make this untrue.
